| About Zahra Gamal Zahra Gamal began studying Middle Eastern dance in 1996 under the instruction of nationally acclaimed teacher Leila Gamal. Within that time she joined Leila’s troupe and began performing. Three years later she relocated to the Washington DC area to pursue and advance her career. She joined Latifa’s Banat el Balad and started dancing in the areas foremost clubs and restaurants. Zahra soon became one of DC’s most sought after performers. She has been called one of the most promising dancers of the “new generation”. In the year 2000 Zahra started traveling to NYC to study with renowned teachers Samara & Jajouka. This would later result to her joining Samara’s Mosaic Dance Company and moving to Manhattan in 2006 where she continued performing and expanding her repertoire. Beyond the club scene, she has done various theatre shows, weddings, festivals, benefits (see highlights below) and teaches regularly. Zahra has traveled around the US and Egypt to observe and further study the art of dance with some of the world’s leading teachers and has most recently moved to Chicago. Zahra is known for her classic style, musicality, unyielding technique, and compelling stage presence.
